A lot of people lately have been trying to find out how to access Facebook in China. Up until recently, it was possible to access Facebook in China as normal, but certain events in the news have meant that certain portions of the Internet have become inaccesible. This is a bad thing for fans of Facebook, but there are are plenty of ways to get around the block and stay in touch with your friends and family on Facebook from China!
- VPN
A VPN lets you access Facebook from a normal internet connection. It’s a little bit of software that you install on your computer and then run after you connect to the internet. It sends all of your internet information through a different computer (located in the US or UK for example)… Try www.witopia.net for more information!
- Proxy
A less elegant option, but just as useful, is to use a web based proxy. There are many of these available, one of the best is ‘sneak me’ (www.sneakme.net). You input the web address that you want to access and then click on ‘OK’ and you can go straight to the site you need.
- Business firewall bandwidth
Some businesses buy bandwidth directly from Chinese telecommunications companies, so multinationals for example can have full access to the Internet without any interruption. Lucky guys!
Good luck with getting access to Facebook in China now you have some options!
Sneak me no longer works. It seems every available proxy is blocked right now. I have been trying for days to get onto FB and am having no luck. I am praying that the blocks will be lifted after the 60th Ann, but am doubting it also.
couldnt access FB anymore, they blocking all access. im using ultrasurf and freegate, but now no one is work.. dont understand is that facebook really scare them to death??
well if anyone has any luck please let me know, also i have netflix instant watch in the US, but i can’t use it since it shows i am in china, if the proxy is back up, will i be able to use netflix instant watch and also watch streaming from the web from network station websites?
You can easily access fb in China using anchorfree vpn service. But this can only be doenloaded from abroad. Just ask your friends to download it, which means they have to download a zipped folder first and then download the tool.
Freedur does it for me. I’ve spent months trying to access my accounts on Facebook, Youtube, etc. But these proxy sites are unreliable so I figure spending a bit for quality access might be worth it and so far so good. You get what you pay for I guess, and free stuff can be relatively unreliable.
Hotspotsheild is work, but many of my friends said it’s kind of inturrupting other programs in use. Some said if u like to use this one, use it after chating msn. One more, it’s slow.
They recommend Ultrasurf…..try it!
hai, i’m ame from indonesia. i come to china for some business trip. i’ve a long day, when i come to hotel and access the internet, its my bad luck i cant open facebook, or multiply to keep in touch with my friends..
woowww… it must be so boring stay in china for a long time. LOL..
Don’t worry. you can use MSN or other.Only Facebook is not available in Chinese Mainland. if you go to Hong Kong or Macao, you can open Facebook.I am from China. Have a good trip in China!

how to access FB in china?
i need answer!!!!!!!!!!
Please stop complaining about that , just use a VPN , it is a virtual private network and everything u do transits through an other computer , the data is encrypted so it’s secure .
All the VPNs and proxies cost like 30 dollars a month. and lots of proxies are being blocked too.. I mean i love facebook but i’m not in a desperate need of it i guess.. 2 months in shanghai without fb! let me know people if you find ANYTHING free, i don’t want to pay for accessing facebook.
no FB in China, terrible. I need it desperately.
Been in China for a few years now and going back home soon, look forward to finally be able to use the internet without a VPN. Big problem in China seems that they seem to block more and more VPN services. I used a Swedish VPN and it worked pretty well. I hope that that the Chinese government will bring down the Great Firewall of China someday soon…
Anyone have the latest VPN, etc to access FB in China? I will be in China for quite a while and need access….please advice
i have been living in beijing for 3 years now
me and my friends have found a lot of sites that you can use to access FB youtube
if you have opera as an internet browser (i recommend, it it is very good) there is a widget that you can download called Proxy list that provides you with working internet based proxy sites
they are very good but if you want to post stuff u have to turn off the setting at the top
Phani Kethana – can you name specifically which proxies are for Facebook. None are obvious and I’m in Shanghai. So far NO access to facebook.
facebook is overrated, people used to live fine without it, facebook’s for social whores
With one just click, FB is a sureway to connect and get response with your family and friends when you’re abroad. I’m not a social whore.. I just happened to have a big family and great friends that I love dearly and need to connect once or twice a week.
And I need to access FB when I go to China soon.
So I used to be able to access FB through a VPN called FreeVPN. It was slow and an unreliable connection, but it got the job done (with some patience)…anyway long story short; its no longer functioning. I understand why China is blocking FB, but in all honesty more people are mumbling cowardice on behalf of the government rather than cheering it as a victory for them. My guess it won’t be coming back anytime soon, since they just launched their newest million-dollar filtering software last year (Green Shield is its codename i think)… so get re-acquainted with e-mail.
I have been like living here for more than 3 years, and then i guess I am not that addicted to it now since China blocked it for too long already haha. So i dont wanna take the effort to open skydur everytime and it’s like so annoying… O.o
For people using mac, there is a program called ‘skydur’ that works perfectly, but it only works for facebook. When you try to access other websites when skydur is on, then they will ask you to pay. For people using windows, my friends had been able to download skydur as well, but then I have no idea how to download on windows since it’s in a completely different website. So for people who are using Mac can ask me on how do download and blah blah blah. Hope this helps!!
Good luck getting to a vpn page when you search google. I guess the green shield is really working. Any sort of search that signals a red flag to this bitch of a country will not load. Crap pot.
hay im in china and need some help
i saw your post..i downloaded skydor but it askes me for credit card info how do i get to work free for facebook??
Hi Guys, I am in China for 7 years and I can voice chat/webcam chat, share photos with my friends and family without FB. Have you tried Yahoo Messenger???? It is perfect to keep in touch…Of course if you need more social issues to post on the web, this is not for you but I stay in touch with everyone I need to talk to. It is so easy. Just have your friends download it, it is free and very fast. You can see who is online at any time you can post your pics or your Avatar for fun. It is also compatible with Hotmail although no pics there. I am a Yahoo fan for more than 10 years….
thats great, i will sure messenger from now on.. problem is i can tell anyone as i cant get on fb to contact them.
potoche in my view your post is a big FAIL
I’m in China for about a week now, and I miss my FB. Good thing I will be back home tomorrow.
I was worried about that… I’m from Canada, living in Germany, and the only thing I use to talk to my friends is FB.
I don’t go a day without it! It’s sure going to be a cultureshock when we go to China in a week for FOUR MONTHS! Yeah yeah, I’m whining.. but FB makes things SO much easier… I will miss it… If anyone figures something out, please post
it’s really suk! just arrived in china 3 days ago. had been trying to access fb but cant. only found out from a local friend here that fb was blocked. why the chinese government blocked this site? anybody got answer to this, please share. thx.
i’ve here at SHANGHAI for a week…without facebook…damn…just knew it today that they blocked…try a few steps still cant…anyone??just can connect to frens via skype..waaaaaaaa…
i live in china , and always my good friends from Vietnam invite to join facebook , but very pity . it`s not available
……………
I don’t know if this is just a coincidence, after I tried opening Facebook the internet stopped working. I tried opening Sneakme thing, internet stopped working again! I am not an IT person and have no idea if Chinese government can control such thing but isn’t it freaky? And for those who say get on Yahoo or MSN Messenger instead probably have no idea what Facebook is… If you never heard the sound you never want to hear anything, if you never seen the light you never want to see it anyway, same thing. (I am from Japan, now visiting Guangzhou)
Oh hey now it works!! (i mean the internet, not FB)
i would just like to say that ppl have to suk it up and ttake it like a man.
ive been in china for about 3 weeks and i love facebook but u gotta live with it. its not the end of the world there r always other things to do so quit complaining. there is always many other things 2 do. i wouldnt wnt to give some examples bcuz ppl have diferent interest. u can alwys call them. it rlly isnt that hard to get ur phone and call them.if u dont no there phone number then u probably have other friends numbers that r in america that can access facebook and ask for ur other friends numbers. so rlly there r many other options. so in my opinion ppl should stop being little kids and whining . china probably has a reasonable explanation for it. if ur still not convince then y notget off ur butt and do somthing about it.
such as throw a protest or even mail the government. dont w8 for others 2 do it unless u wwant to w8 awhile
None of these methods work =/ And I see a lot of people commenting on how fb isn’t everything, and I agree. However, fb is extremely convenient to keep in contact with my friends abroad; I don’t want to come home to a huge phone bill (!!) Another issue is that I don’t have a lot of people’s msn because they don’t use it. If they did I would just spend my time on ebuddy.
China’s being so anal about the internet surfing. I can’t even do my work properly with “the Great Firewall of China” as Lakavivat put it.
i agree with “yama” i see a lot of people commenting on how FB isn’t everything and to “stop being little kids and suk it up” (p.s. it’s suck not suk). obviously it isn’t everything and i’m pretty sure that this is a facebook forum so… if you don’t want to help us “expats” or anyone else who just wants to check up on FB then why the hell are you even here? if you don’t have anything positive to contribute to helping us in our search to log in to a social network (for free without coming home to a huge phone bill) that most of us are accustomed to, don’t get on your soap box and preach about how FB isn’t everything. If social networks mean nothing to you then…why are you so bored you’re commenting on topics that “don’t matter to you”?
To obtain a stable fast working way to get on Facebook is to use a VPN that you BOUGHT. Free ones are unreliable and crap. Basically you have to pay to get on Facebook. :/ and stop complaining if something doesn`t work…PAY FOR IT…the time you spent is probably already worth more than just paying for a VPN. I`m stuck here for 2 years and my paid one is fine. Downloading Free Crap, Proxies & Complaining won`t work. Jeez
Hi, I’m a school kid from Sweden. My whole family is Chinese, so I need to come to China every year. Last year when I came here I discovered that Facebook doesn’t work when we’re having summer holiday. My friend’s are sending tons of request’s that I can see on my Email. When I click on the link it doesn’t work. Can’t the government understand that they’re ruining people’s lives? Yeah, some people say “Take it like a man” or “Use MSN” but I’m not a man, I’m a boy. I’m a school boy. Soon a school boy without friends. Don’t you get it? You’re destroying the future! And the thing about MSN, I have MSN but you can’t play games (Not FB games, only booooring MSN games) , you can’t search for pages, and more!
“social whores”? Haven’t you experienced a really good friendship? I’m losing the contact with the most important person in my life! And who’s that? It’s my girlfriend. She could be my future. I’ve tried proxy servers and they don’t work. Now I’ve got enough. I want to do this clean and simple. I crave a change!
I hope that someone important see this so it could be a change. Please give it a chance!
