What’s in an MSN status?

When I’m not on Facebook (and to be honest, that’s not a large part of the day), I’m usually connected to MSN (Live Messenger) chat. It’s pretty handy to have a program that’s not on a website (like Facebook chat is) – it seems like it can be more powerful than a web based one.

Anyway, I used to live in a small town in the north of France (I travelled a lot), and this meant that sometimes I would have problems connecting to MSN. This was a pain, as sometimes I would want to know what the MSN status was but of course usually if MSN wasn’t working that meant that the whole Internet was not available (so it was had to check the status).

Being on a dial up connection also had some other annoying side-effects. Have you ever been typing and then suddenly the messages that you sent out begin to be sent back to you undelivered? That happened to me so many times that I wanted to scream! It’s something to do with the login server or something, I’m not sure. Now I live in a big city so I don’t really worry about connectiong problems and I worry more about adding my own funny MSN status than the actual logging on!
