You might have heard me talk about chat symbols before on my Facebook blog, but right now it is becoming crazy! More and more people are using special chat characters in their statuses, in their user names and in their blogs instead of emoticons and smileys – it’s crazy! The reason for the rise in demand of these alt characters is simple – some people can’t use their emotes in chats any more.

When I first started using Facebook chat, it was really fun because the emotions that they have installed are really cool and clever. What happened when I used my mobile phone to access the service, however, was that I couldn’t use the same smilies because my handset didn’t support them! They did support chat symbols though!
Now I use these chat symbols every day, and I especially like using the music note in my MSN status to tell everyone what I’m listening to at a special time. I also use Twitter quite a lot to keep track of my online friends, and so more and more I use cool special characters in my tweets to show off to people online. I’m not sure if Twitter will ever introduced real emoticons of their own, but until they do I will have these ones handy!
If you know of any good chat symbols then please leave them in the comments section here so that anyone who stumbles across this blog will be able to read them and see for themselves how fun they are!
